 The F.W. Olin Science Center opened in 1996 and strengthened Colby's highly regarded environmental science programs. The center includes the 10,800-square-foot Science Library, a case-study classroom, teaching and research laboratories, a research greenhouse, group study areas for informal student-faculty discussions, and faculty offices. |
 The Olin Science Center has two groundwater monitoring wells in the basement - one 15 feet deep, the other 110 feet deep. They allow student researchers to measure earth tides by following the fluctuating groundwater levels that result from the gravitational pull of the moon and sun. |
