At Colby's 181st commencement on Sunday, 470 members of the class of 2002 graduated as several thousand family members and other well-wishers looked on. The event was Webcast live. John Montelle "Monty" Hobson of Clayton, Missouri, elected by his classmates to speak, charmed the audience with an emotional celebration of the caring and supportive community that the class experienced at Colby. Commencement speaker, playwright Arthur Kopit, told graduates that the world, and notions of security in particular, changed fundamentally during their senior year. "The great adventure continues," he told them. "Godspeed."
