Photography at Colby

Event Assignments

Colby does not employ a college photographer. Therefore, we are not able to accomodate photographic needs beyond those for publications produced by Communications or for specific archival, documentary and presentation purposes.

Student photographers, freelancers, or staff members cover some lectures and news events, some athletic events and prominent institutional events (Lovejoy, Homecoming, Reunion, Commencement, etc.).

Persons who wish to find out if a Communications photographer is covering an event can contact the Communications Department (ext. 3276).

If Communications does not plan to photograph the event, a list of student photographers and local freelancers is available. We also own and will loan out a point-and-shoot camera. The person hiring student or freelance photographers or using the point-and-shoot camera will be responsible for every aspect of the shoot, including film purchase and development and scheduling and follow-up with photographers.

Photo Research/Requests

We make available photographic images in our archives to faculty and staff for College purposes such as publicity, articles, and presentations. Please contact the Communications Department (communications@colby.edu, ext. 3276) if you have a specific request for images. Please allow at least two weeks to research.
