Current Research

My research tracks modernity's affects through 20th/21st century music and culture. I'm interested in experimentalism in particular and how it functions as a musical practice, technology of the self, and a mode of sociopolitical belonging. I bring insights from contemporary musicological practice (particularly the work of Georgina Born and Antoine Hennion) and science and technology studies (especially Bruno Latour and Isabelle Stengers) to bear on the analysis of musical/social networks as they form and dissolve in the U.S. and across the globe.

My in-progress projects are titled:
The Illusion of Feeling: Morton Feldman and the Rothko Chapel
Julius Eastman and the Musical Ecology of Downtown New York
Experimental Assemblages: Musical Modernity and the Lure of Technoscience
