Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence - 2004
For its outstanding efforts in environmental protection, Colby College in Waterville received a 2004 Maine Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence on November 5 in Augusta. Governor John Baldacci presented the awards to focus attention on the environmental accomplishments of 18 businesses, organizations and individuals throughout the state.

EPA Environmental Merit Award - 2004
The New England Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized
Colby College's ongoing environmental efforts with the presentation of an Environmental
Merit Award on Earth Day (April 22) in Boston. The award recognizes exceptional
work and commitment to the environment during 2003. In announcing the award
the Agency said "Colby College is 'walking-the-talk' when it comes to combining
strong academic environmental programs with tangible actions to reduce the environmental
impact of its campus operations."

EPA Best Management Practices Catalog - 2003
In April 2003 Colby College's R.E.S.C.U.E. (Reuse Everything! Save Colby's Usable Excess) program was included the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Best Management Practices for Colleges and Universities. This catalog features programs and initiatives at private and public schools across the United States, ranging in size from over 20,000 students to under 2,000. According to the EPA the catalog is designed to "assist colleges and universities achieve compliance and beyond compliance goals such as pollution prevention, resource conservation, and environmental stewardship."

Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence - 2002
On September 20, 2002 Colby College was honored with the Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence. The award recognized the continuing efforts of the Colby community to make the campus a more environmentally friendly place. Some of Colby's accomplishments include reduced paper consumption in the dining halls, reduced electrical consumption due to retrofits as well as a host of other sustainable measures taken throughout the campus. Colby is the FIRST educational institution to receive this distinguished award.
