Goals

  •  We will purchase energy efficient computers.
  •  We will recycle ink and toner cartridges and other computer materials as possible.
  •  We will employ sleep mode and turn off computers when not in use.
  •  We will use proper disposal methods for old computers.

    Practices and Accomplishments

  •  A Green Computing "Personal Action Guide" has been developed and other materials and information are available from Information Technology Services.
  •  Printer and copier paper is centrally purchased for use in Colby-owned equipment. After research and trials, an 80% recycled paper was selected to be used campus-wide. This paper is also certified processed chlorine-free by the Chlorine Free Products Association.
  •  Computers distributed by Colby are pre-set to go into sleep mode after specified time period. Sleep mode greatly reduces a computer's energy usage. To learn how to activate your computer's sleep mode click here.
