Goals
We will work to reduce total and per capita water consumption.
We will reuse wastewater where feasible or we will dispose of it in an environmentally supportive manner.
Practices and Accomplishments
New energy efficient, front-loading washing machines installed across campus allow for larger loads, require less detergent, remove more water from clothes and save the college upwards of 1 million gallons of water annually.
Only low-flow showerheads are now installed on campus.
Nearly all toilets on campus use reduced-flow plumbing that reduces their water consumption by more than 50%.
Recent construction and renovation projects have replaced water-cooled air conditioning, air handling, and other cooling equipment with air-cooled units to save on water consumption.
Campus irrigation systems have been equipped with rain sensors to eliminate unnecessary sprinkler use.
As part of the renovation of the ice rink, a separate, low-heat room has been constructed to house the Zamboni, removing the need to constantly heat and circulate water through the machine to prevent freezing.
