Goals

  •  We will work to reduce total and per capita water consumption.
  •  We will reuse wastewater where feasible or we will dispose of it in an environmentally supportive manner.

    Practices and Accomplishments

  •  New energy efficient, front-loading washing machines installed across campus allow for larger loads, require less detergent, remove more water from clothes and save the college upwards of 1 million gallons of water annually.
  •  Only low-flow showerheads are now installed on campus.
  •  Nearly all toilets on campus use reduced-flow plumbing that reduces their water consumption by more than 50%.
  •  Recent construction and renovation projects have replaced water-cooled air conditioning, air handling, and other cooling equipment with air-cooled units to save on water consumption.
  •  Campus irrigation systems have been equipped with rain sensors to eliminate unnecessary sprinkler use.
  •  As part of the renovation of the ice rink, a separate, low-heat room has been constructed to house the Zamboni, removing the need to constantly heat and circulate water through the machine to prevent freezing.
