Colby Student Organizations

Colby Climate Coalition

Student activists have concentrated on reaching greenhouse gas emissions goals for Colby. Inspired by the growing concern about global warming, more technically known as global climate change, Environmental Studies students at Colby have become leaders in local Climate Change action. Students are getting involved in climate change policies in Maine. They are promoting awareness of these issues among students, faculty, and staff.
Colby Environmental Coalition (EC)
The Environmental Coalition is a student-run, political organization dedicated to promoting environmental initiatives, raising awareness among students on campus and greening the Colby lifestyle. The EC seeks to educate the Colby and Waterville communities about recycling, water quality, maple sugaring, forest management, and other environmental issues. The EC is located in the basement of Mary Low.
Colby Environmental Studies Club (CESC)
The club was founded in the Fall of 2003 to connect majors and faculty in this interdisciplinary program. The club aims to create a sense of community within the ES program by hosting social events such as club lunches and pub nights, attending environmental conferences, volunteering at events (including introducing lecturers), providing a network for students to talk about internships, ES courses and common experiences, and reaching out to prospective students through admissions. The ES Club is open to anyone who would like to get involved.
Colby Outing Club (COC)
The COC is a source of information, inspiration, and equipment for a wide range of outdoor activities. The COC owns a cabin, runs weekend trips throughout Maine (including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking trips). Upon payment of dues, members are also entitled to borrow any of the club's extensive inventory of equipment. The COC office is located in Mary Low. In order to reserve the Outing Club Cabin, inquire at the Outing Club Office, or visit the Colby Outing Club website at www.colby.edu/coc to view the Outing Club Cabin Policy.
Colby Mountaineering Club (CMC)
The Colby Mountaineering Club is composed of students dedicated to rock, ice, and alpine climbing. The CMC maintains the indoor climbing wall which is open to Colby students, faculty and staff. They also lead outdoor rock and ice climbing trips as well as provide free leader training. The climbing wall, and all CMC equipment and resources, are available to members upon completion of the free introductory climbing seminar. The CMC climbing wall and office is located in the Fieldhouse.
