Secretary IV Department: Student Activities Date: 04/04/2006
This is a full time (35 hours/week), ten-month, academic year appointment to the support staff. Reporting to the Director of Student Activities, the secretary provides support for the Director and Assistant Director, and to the Director of Outdoor Safety and Education. The position requires frequent exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Extensive verbal and written communication is required within the College and with outside individuals and businesses. Excellent writing skills, computer proficiency, fiscal responsibility, and good interpersonal communication skills are necessary for the position. The secretary interacts frequently with student leaders and members of Student Government Association, Student Programming Board, Pugh Community Board, COOT2 Committee and Leaders, and with class representatives. Frequent interaction also occurs with members and leaders of Colby's (130+) student clubs and organizations. The secretary must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Qualifications include: Post-secondary education preferred, a High School Diploma required; two years previous secretarial experience required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email and internet required; must be willing to learn new programs. Excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills required; basic accounting skills/knowledge desired; excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills required.
