Colby College seeks nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. The vice president/dean leads the College’s student services team, including Residence Life, Housing, Student Activities, Academic Advising, Multicultural and International Affairs, the Health Center, and the Chaplains’ Office. Reporting to the president and a member of the president’s senior administrative team, the vice president/dean provides strong leadership, imagination and initiative in the building of a vibrant and strong student community and in the integration of student social and residential life activities with the principal academic programs and missions of the College. S/he must be a proven leader and an exceptional manager of people and resources. The vice president/dean will be broadly responsible for ensuring the development of student life programs and activities that further the college’s fundamental commitments to diversity and inclusion. In addition to these responsibilities, the vice president/dean is one of the principal advocates for student concerns, needs and aspirations, and represents student life and issues to the broader campus community. S/he also will participate in the College’s overall marketing efforts, in its comprehensive capital campaign, and in senior-level strategic planning.

The successful candidate will: hold a Baccalaureate degree, ideally in the liberal arts, with an advanced degree preferred; have significant leadership experience in student affairs; demonstrate excellent management skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals; and possess a thorough knowledge of the needs and challenges present in a liberal arts college setting.
