Why Conserve Water

Although the Earth's surface is about 75% water, of that only 3% is fresh water. ¾ of the fresh water on our planet is found in polar ice caps and glaciers making it economically impractical to use. That leaves less than 1% of the water on this planet available for human consumption. Making water available for drinking requires significant amounts of energy (for pumping/treating), and chemicals (for disinfection). No new water is being manufactured (except by global warming!). The primary water supply is firmly fixed. However, the human population continues to grow exponentially. We must understand that water is essential for life and therefore support the sustainable management of this renewable resource.
