Mid-Maine Sustainability Coalition Three exciting paid summer internship positions are now available to Colby College students with the Mid-Maine Sustainability Coalition (MMSC). The Coalition is a “grassroots initiative created to conserve our resources, sustain a healthy environment, and promote economic prosperity” for the region. The group was recently organized when 65 representative stakeholders from state and area businesses, governments, non-profits, and communities met for three full days to create a sustainability plan for the region. The draft plan and vision can be found at http://www.waterville-me.gov/departments/catalyst. The coalition is composed of two supervisory committees and eight sub-committees focused on energy, local food, and education, among other areas. The interns will attend committee meetings to support committee goals and report on committee development. Interns will also conduct research of various types, most importantly to advise the MMSC Steering Committee on the most appropriate indicators of progress for each of the committees. Among these and other tasks, the interns will prepare a final report with the findings of their research and work during the course of their summer with final recommendations for further work in each of the committees. Expenses covered by the internship include housing and meal plan on Colby College campus as well as transportation and training/conference expenses. Interested applicants should send a transcript and short cover letter that summarizes why they are interested in this position and how their background relates to it. Application materials should be submitted by Wednesday, April 14th to: Steve Erario 6736 Mayflower Hill Waterville, ME 04901
