Raccoon Creek AmeriCorps Education and Outreach Specalist

Work with the Raccoon Creek Partnership (www.raccooncreek.org) and Rural Action (www.ruralaction.org) to educate the community about environmental issues and the work of Raccoon Creek. Conduct water sampling, work with youth, mobilize volunteers, organize day camps, create displays, all the while enhancing your own skills and deepening your understanding of watershed issues.

This is an opportunity to make a difference in your life and the lives of those around you. It is a one year commitment to national service that will put your skills and ideals to work helping others. Rural Action AmeriCorps members serve in watershed groups in Appalachian Ohio. Your service will protect and restore the fragile ecosystems that are key to the health of the region.

The position will start August 10, 2009 and will run through August 9, 2010. The member must complete 1700 hours of service within this time frame. Application deadline is July 15, 2009 and must be completed on www.AmeriCorps.org.

AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance, student-loan forbearance, health coverage, and child care for those who qualify. After successfully completing their term of service, they receive an AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725. This award can be used to pay off qualified student loans or to finance college, graduate school, or vocational training at eligible institutions.
