Departments of: Biology, Chemistry, and the Environmental Studies Program
Colby offers major programs in Environmental Science with an emphasis in one of three departments/programs— biology, chemistry, and environmental studies. Each program is intended to prepare students for a role as educated citizens in a world increasingly confronted with environmental problems, as well as for entry-level positions in firms or government agencies dealing with these problems, or for graduate work in related areas. The three environmental science majors emphasize the scientific foundation that underlies environmental planning with each one having a different emphasis and background. The Environmental Studies Program also offers a concentration in environmental policy and an Environmental Studies minor, the latter of which may be elected by majors from any department or program.
