Why are Africa’s dictators failing?
Laura Seay, Assistant Professor of Government

In recent months, protesters from Hong Kong to Bolivia and Lebanon have risen up against perceived abuses of power by their governments. This trend has been underway in Africa for several years as well, most recently leading to the fall of longtime dictators in Sudan, Algeria, Zimbabwe, and Burkina Faso. Why is popular protest happening in Africa, and what is causing leaders who have withstood previous protests to leave office now? We’ll talk about these questions and more in the semester’s last Pizza and Politics.
