The African-American Studies Program presents: The First Marion Osborne Matheson Black History Month Lecture
Thursday, February 19, 8 p.m.
Ostrove Auditorium – Diamond Building
Judith Casselberry, assistant professor of Africana studies at Bowdoin College, will deliver Colby’s inaugural Marion Osborne Matheson Black History Month Lecture, titled “Solving the Mystery of Grace Jones: It’s the Holy Ghost!”
Marion Osborne Matheson, Class of 1900, was Colby’s first black woman graduate. The annual lecture named after her serves to advance the purpose of celebrating Black History Month by featuring a speaker whose teaching and scholarship focuses primarily on the history, communities, organizations, activism, and culture of people of African descent in the United States and elsewhere. The lecture will also be explicit in its inclusiveness of the experiences and contributions of women as well as men.
