For its spring concert, the Colby Wind Ensemble delves into the world of program music, featuring works of composers Julie Giroux and Johan de Meij. The concert opens with two fun marches from Julie Giroux: “March of the Sundried Tomatoes” recounting an unfortunate cooking debacle, and “Tiger Tail March” depicting a typical day in a Louisiana parish. The ensemble will also present Giroux’s “Imbizo” using scales and rhythms borrowed from the African continent, evoking “a gathering, a celebration, a coming together of friendship, soul and spirit”. Completing the program are “Highlights of Chess” and the movements “Gollum” and “Journey in the Dark Lord of the Rings” from Symphony no. 1 of Johan de Meij.
