Taking its title from the autobiography of Marsden Hartley, this symposium will feature leading scholars of American art and American studies who will explore the interest in regional, New England subjects among American artists who contributed to the development of modernism in rural contexts. The chronological span of topics addressed will begin prior to the heyday of Regionalism and extend into the post-World War II era. The event will include a keynote lecture and several panel discussions.
