Hey Everyone,
National Pengyou Day is coming up this week on Thursday! “Pengyou” 朋友 (pung-yo) means friend in Chinese. In conjunction with the US State Department’s International Education Week, over 50 Project Pengyou Campus Chapters, Asia Society Confucius Classrooms, Fulbright Program, and the US-China Strong Foundation will simultaneously launch events and social media campaigns this week to celebrate US-China study, engagement, and friendship.
Project Pengyou chapters serve as a platform to build connections between the U.S. and China, to build friendships with one another, to fight xenophobia, and to promote collaboration, inclusion and mutual understanding.
You can celebrate with the Project Pengyou Colby Chapter by participating in the following events on Thursday:
1. Chinese culture activities in the SPA from 11 am – 2 pm
Stop by and enjoy Chinese dumplings, snacks, tea, calligraphy, a photo booth, chopsticks challenges and more! All levels of China knowledge are welcome, join us for some fun activities to explore the US and Chinese culture and learn something new.
2. Prof. panel: Surviving or Thriving? Experience with Bridge-building in China & the U.S. from 4 – 5 pm in Pugh.
What is a bridge-builder? Come find out at the Professor Panel! Professors will share their experiences and talk about the significance of cross-cultural exchange at Colby as well as in general and how it relates to US-China relations.
We look forward to celebrating National Pengyou Day with you!
