The Cayley Plane and Higher Genus Arithmetic
Friday, April 20, 3:45pm, Davis 201
Refreshments at 3:15, Davis 2nd floor

I will describe how the projective geometry of the octonions both deepens the affinity between projective spaces and bordism rings and points to new connections between higher genus arithmetic and homotopy theory. Despite its lofty aims, the talk will be broadly accessible, and will emphasize the central role of new results on binomial coefficients published last year in the American Mathematical Monthly.
