Speaker: Saeed Khan, Director of the Institute for Policy and Understanding, Michigan.

The media coverage of Islam in the media has become a highly
controversial issue. Muslims are concerned with the way that they, and their religion, are portrayed. An analysis shall be provided of the
historical, psychological, cultural, political and economic reasons
behind the Western perception and media portrayal of Islam as a menace. The main themes of the perception and portrayal will then be assessed relative to the corresponding reality. Examples are, 'What does Islam really say about women, jihad and tolerance?' Finally, possible solutions will be offered to ameliorate the situation, with steps that can be taken both by the media as well as the Muslims community to dispel the negative images currently prevalent in several media outlets.
