Set in the Chosun Dynasty of the 19th Century, in a time of political and social unrest, this is the story of Jang Seung-Up (AKA Oh-won), an orphaned, uncouth, self-taught painter who explores his natural talent amidst the repressive world around him, eventually becoming one of the most famous Asian painters despite his meager beginnings. The film won Best Director at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. Desserts will be served.
