Colby College's Oak Institute for the Study of International Human Rights in Waterville has announced a Friday, November 16, panel presentation of "The Future of Human Rights in the Balkans." The event will be held at 7:30 pm in room 01 of Olin Science Building and is open to the public free of charge.
Participants will include Dusan Bjelic of the University of Southern Maine, Keith Brown of the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University, and 2001 Oak Fellow Sevdie Ahmeti. A 56-year-ld Albanian Kosovar, Ahmeti has risked her life helping women and children war victims in Kosovo. Ahmeti is the fourth Oak Human Rights fellow, following human rights activists who had risked their lives on behalf of child laborers in Pakistan, civil society in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and indigenous and peasant groups in Columbia.
