“Missing Pieces” or “Tutu's required”
Featuring music that has been banned, is difficult to find, is 'politically' altered, or was previously promised (but not delivered): Movements 3 and 4 from Ellington's “The Nutcracker Suite” – “Peanut Brittle Brigrade” and “Sugar Rum Cherry;” Big Band arrangements of “Sun Goddess” from Earth Wind And Fire; “Django” from the Modern Jazz Quartet; and “That’s How We Roll” and “Howdiz Songo” from Gordon Goodwin. Music banned from the airwaves of the United States includes “Love For Sale;” and we feature Third Reich propagandized work “Black Bottom Stomp.” The small groups will hit us with the ‘Rhythm’ contrafact “Race to the Bridge,” “Maynard & Waynard,” and Billy Strayhorn’s violin and viola featured love song “Pretty Little One.” Lastly we premiere a Latin inspired composition by Luke Martin ’14.
