Panelists will discuss how the absence of federal shield law protections, coupled with the escalating number of prosecutions for intelligence-related whistleblower disclosures, has placed enormous pressures on reporters and news outlets while the urgency of providing the public with accurate information about government surveillance practices has intensified.

Panelists include Siobhan Gorman, reporter, the Wall Street Journal; Thomas Drake, former senior executive, U.S. National Security Agency, and whistleblower; and Fritz Byers, lecturer in law, University of Toledo, and communications lawyer. Rebecca Corbett ’74, senior enterprise editor for the New York Times, will moderate.
