The Colby Feminist Alliance began with a bang at the Pugh Center Palooza and Club Expo, where we had record numbers of sign-ups. We also participated in Suicide Prevention Month, drafting a letter to raise dialogue on mental health at Colby. The first half of the semester was dedicated to feminist labor issues, with weekly discussions on topics like media representations of working women and the pay gap. The largest event for the theme was Women in the Workforce Panel, where several female faculty and staff spoke about their experiences in their careers and at Colby. The second half of the semester was dedicated to sex positivity, with discussions around body positivity, hook-up culture, and LGBTQIA+ experiences. To wrap up the semester, the Feminist Alliance held a tabling event in collaboration with other Pugh Center clubs, called SexFest and Chill to promote awareness on sexualities, gendered pressures during sex, racialized fetishes, and safety during positive sexual practices. The Feminist Alliance assisted in the creation of the Colby Outing Club’s Women in the Outdoors month. Collaboration was a staple of the entire semester, with support and promotion of events related to human rights, trans issues, overall student health, and reproductive choice.
