Professor and Chair

(B.A. Brandeis; Ph.D. M.I.T.)

Ken Rodman came to Colby in 1989 and assumed the leadership of the International Studies program. Under his direction, the program became a major that currently enrolls more than 100 students. Ken teaches courses on international relations and foreign policy. He is the author of many articles and of Sanctity Versus Sovereignty: The United States and the Nationalization of Natural Resource Investments published by Columbia University Press, and Sanctions Beyond Borders: Multinational Corporations and Economic Statecraft (Rowman & Littlefield).

Professor Rodman was the first Director of the Oak Institute for the Study of Human Rights.  The Institute sponsors an annual symposium on international human rights and sponsors the Oak Human Rights Fellowship - a one-semester scholar-in-residence position for a human rights practioner. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide human rights professionals working on the front lines at some personal risk a respite from their duties for the purpose of reflection, writing, and communicating their work to the broader campus community.  Visit Colby's Oak Fellowship page for more information about the Oak Human Rights Fellowship. For more information about the Oak Institute, contact Mary Beth Mills, Director (memills@colby.edu) or Eliza Denoeux, the Associate Director (egdenoeu@colby.edu).
