RESCUE
The RESCUE, Recycle Everything Save Colby’s Usable Excess,
program started in 2001-2002 and has been very successful. At the end of each academic year,
orange RESCUE boxes are placed in the dormitories where small furniture and
household items are collected.
Outside drop-off locations for large items -furniture and carpets- are
also set-up. Clothing and
furniture are donated to local non-profit agencies and the remaining items are
cleaned, sorted, and stored in trailers over the summer. At the beginning of the fall semester
the college holds RESCUE sales for the entire community. All items collected are sold or donated. Colby’s Physical Plant
Department runs the program with the help of many student, faculty, and staff
volunteers.
