Recognizing the fact that diverse interests exist in every community, and that even the most professionally trained individuals have a need to continue their education, Colby maintains an Office of Special Programs. Each summer approximately 6,000 individuals from around the world are on campus for courses, conferences, seminars, and institutes in areas of medicine, public and professional services, youth programs, and sports camps. Sports camps include: baseball (boys), basketball (boys and girls), cross country (coed), football (boys), lacrosse (girls and boys), soccer (coed), softball (girls)

Conferences, educational programs, and workshops include: Colby College Institute for Leadership, American Chemical Society, Gear Up Program, Maine Department of Education Summer Academy, Catholic Diocese Institute, Wach's Great Books Summer Institute, Canada/USA Math Camp, ACE Computer Camp for Kids, The Piano Institute at Colby, The Portland String Quartet Workshop, Annual Institute of Church Music

Continuing medical education programs include: Maine Orthopaedic Review, Annual Advances in Identification and Treatment of Childhood Behavioral Disorders, Physician Assistant Summer Symposium, Problems in Pediatrics, Annual New England Seminar in Forensic Sciences, Emergency Medicine Update, Kevin Hill Seminar in Ophthalmology, Lancaster Course, Anesthesiology Update, Annual Selected Topics in Child Abuse.

Colby is the only four-year college in the country to be awarded full accreditation as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

Public Performances include: Al Corey's Big Band Bash, The Portland String Quartet, the Piano Institute, and the Institute of Church Music
