What Does Colby Do with Old Computer Equipment?

As Dean of the College Earl Smith identified local schools that had a need and a place for older models removed from Colby offices and labs. These area schools sent staff members who looked over the available equipment to choose what was appropriate for their programs.

More recently the technical limitations of older models made them inappropriate for use in schools. Arrangements are underway to ship these units to a professional disposal process that will for a recycling fee dismantle, retrieve, and dispose of hazardous chemicals and metals within the computer shell.

Old computers should not be put in the local dumps for future generations to clean up nor should these older units be given away until the owner has made sure that all personal files are deleted.
