Lab Use Policies

• Access is restricted to current Colby students, faculty and staff.
• All others must obtain permission in advance from Information Technology Services, Chris Christensen, ITS Admin Secretary, Lovejoy 105 and sign in with Chris before using labs. Contact Chris at (207)872-3414 8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday- if you arrive after hours or on a weekend you will NOT be able to get permission to use the labs.
• Anyone who does not have permission will be asked to leave.
• Other users will be asked to leave if the lab is crowded and there are students waiting.
• Any minors in the lab must have obtained permission from ITS (see above).
• Minors may not use any network software in the labs unless they are supervised by an adult. ITS staff and student workers will not provide this supervision. If the minor does not have permission or is using network software, they will be asked to leave.
• No pets, food, or drinks are allowed in the labs.

DESCRIPTION

Equipment: 24 iMacs and 12 Windows machines. Screen for projector in lab center. (a projector system is available for use with either Windows or Mac)

Macintosh Software

Colby standard suite: Mac OS 9.2 + OS X Acrobat Reader, BBEdit Lite, IE, Microsoft Office X, SPSS 11, Sophos Anti Virus, Eudora Light, Endnote, Fetch, Fugu, Netscape, IE, Safari, Mozilla, Office X, Terminal

Mac Scanner Station(Computer #25): standard suite plus Photoshop, Omni Page Pro and Pagemaker.

Right Wing (12 iMacs): standard suite plus Filemaker Pro, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Learn Dreamweaver, and webSavant Web authoring training. (Use your own headphones.)

Windows software

All Windows machines in the lab: Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Office XP, SPSS, Sophos Anti Virus,Eudora Lite, TeraTerm, Netscape, IE, SSH Secure Shell, WSFtp, Learning Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver, Cat Lab, NJStar, Endnote, General Ledger, WSFTP.

Windows Scanner Station(Computer #6): all software above (EXCEPT Dreamweaver) plus Photoshop, Omni Page Pro and Pagemaker.

Departmental labs

SCHEDULE

Monday, Wednesday, Friday Saturday and Sunday-- Open 24 hours
Tuesday & Thursday closed from 6:30am-8:00am

Fall Semester (9/3-12/16)- see above hours. Lovejoy lab will be open normal hours during Thanksgiving break and open 24 hours starting 11/30. Lab closes at 5:00 pm on December 16th.

Between Semesters and During Spring Break hours will be 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday.(Closed Holidays & Weekends.)

Jan Plan(1/5-1/29) Same as Fall semester.

Spring Semester(2/4-5/22) Same hours as above except for Spring recess. Lab will close at noon on 3/20 but will be open from 8:00am to 5:00pm 3/22-3/26. Lab will be closed on 3/27 and will reopen 3/28 at 10:00am. Lab will be open 24 hours starting 3/29 and will close at 5:00pm on May 22nd. Summer hours begin 5/24.

GETTING HELP IN THE LAB

The lab monitor on duty can help with freezes, crashes, equipment maintenance or printing problems. S/he cannot provide in depth training or troubleshooting.

Report problems with the lab equipment to the lab monitor on duty or (between 8:00-4:30) to Paula Lemar, across the hall from the lab.
