Sound
at Colby
An extensive review of how Colby manages public address sound systems
for campus events was conducted by a Colby management group during
this past spring/summer. Based on acceptance of the report Sound
at Colby, a series of changes have been implemented to accomodate
all campus needs while en-suring a more efficient use of resources.
Highlights
of the new policies:
Coordinating Department: Media
Services coordinates campus sound services with requests made directly
to Media Services or through the Colby Scheduling Office. David
Pinkham is the primary contact within Media Services; he allocates
resources from his area, Physical Plant, and other sources.
Our New Sound Company: Colby
has contracted with a professional sound company, Perrow Audio Productions,
which provides technicians and equipment for various campus events.
Complimenting existing college resources, Perrow is scheduled by
Media Services based on the complexity and timing of each
week's calendar of events.
Request Deadline: Noon Friday
is the deadline for sound services requests for the following Monday
thru Sunday. Without this lead time, the process begins with a "no
guarantee" low priority response with the most likely arrangement
being a self-service approach. Beyond that, the best arrangements
possible are
attempted with up to a $50 fee billed to the event organizer.
Key Sound Operators: Departments
that require the frequent use of sound equipment and sevices are
expected to designate a key sound person trained to operate basic
campus sound equipment, and who is knowledgeable on Colby's sound
policies. Media Services provides all the necessary training and
support.
