MACINTOSH

OS 9x and below

  1. Open the Chooser (under the Apple menu)
  2. Click the Appleshare icon in the upper left part of the Chooser window.
  3. In the lower left, scroll down the list of Appletalk Zones; click on Info Tech Services MR.
  4. From the list on the upper right (under "select a file server")click to select General_Server. Click OK.
  5. When asked to choose "Guest" or "Registered user" choose "Guest";click OK.
  6. You should see a box with the choices General_Server or Office 98.Double-click on "General_Server."
  7. An icon called General_Server will appear on your desktop- double-click to open it. See contents.

Reminder: to create an alias of the General Server to make it easier to connect in the future, select the General Server icon on your desktop, go to the File menu | Make Alias. Keep the alias on your desktop or wherever you like.

Macintosh OS X*

The applications on the General Server are NOT guaranteed to be compatible with OS X.

1.click anywhere on your desktop to activate the Finder. From the Go menu select "Connect to Server".

2.in the "Address" box, enter 137.146.210.99
OR scroll down the left-hand side list of zone and select "Info Tech Services MR" then click General Server in the right side list.

3.click "Connect."

4.Choose "Guest" - do not enter a password. Click Connect.

5.Under "Select the volumes you wish to mount" make sure "General_Server" is selected; click OK.

Once you have connected, the General Server's IP number will show up at the top of the list of servers, so you don''t have to keep entering it. You can also create an alias and add it to your Favorites (or keep it on your desktop). If you have a 2-button mouse, you can create an alias by right-clicking on the Genera_ Server icon; otherwise, select it by single-clicking, go to the File menu and choose Make Alias.

To add the alias to your Favorites, choose Go| Favorites | Go to Favorites.Drag the General Server alias onto the Favorites window. After that, you can access the General Server under Go | Favorites.

 

WINDOWS

Windows 2000/XP

OPTION A: the short way-
Start | Run
type in "\\General_Server"; click OK
for user name, type in "guest"-click OK.
skip to #5 below

OPTION B: the long way. Try this is you have any problem getting Option A to work:

  1. Double-click on My Network Places;
    double click"Entire Network" icon; click once where it says "you may also view the entire contents of the network."
  2. Double-click Microsoft Windows Network icon.
  3. Double-click "Colby."
  4. Double-click "General_Server." IF PROMPTED FOR A PASSWORD, ENTER "guest" FOR BOTH USER NAME AND PASSWORD.
  5. Double-click "General_Server" again.
  6. You now see all contents of the Server- click on whichever folder you want.

Windows NT

Double-click on Network Neighborhood;
double click "Colby"

Double-click General_Server

You will see this message:
"Incorrect password or unknown username for:
\\General_Server

Underneath,in the box next to "connect as", enter "guest"(without the quotes); do not enter any password. Click OK.

Double-click "General_Server."

You now see all contents - click on whichever folder you want.

Windows 95/98

If first starting the machine, at the logon screen enter 'guest' in the user name field and 'residence' in the password field.

If past the initial logon screen, go to 'Start' | 'Shut Down' | 'Close all programs and log on as a different user' and click Yes. When the log on screen appears enter 'guest' in the user name field and 'residence' in the password field.

[Note: In order to access the General Server the user must be logged on to the network. By-passing the log on process will generate an error when trying to access the General Server.]

Double-click on Network Neighborhood..

Double-click General_Server

Log on as "guest"; click OK.

You now see all contents - click on whichever folder you want.
