Class of 1998
Majors: International Studies
My international studies background and interest in development work
lead me to Management Sciences for Health, an international public health
non-profit organization that provides management consulting services for
organizations in Latin America, Africa, and parts of Asia. I worked
specifically on the Family Planning Management Development Project funded
by USAID coordinating the day to day management of projects mainly in Latin
America. My time at MSH proved to be an incredible learning experience
in the buraucracy and instability of government development projects.
Congressional bans on foreign aid, government coups, earthquakes, hurricanes,
and volcanos were just a few of the hurdles we faced in trying to accomplish
our workplan. After two years, I knew that in order to move forward in
my field, I needed an area of expertise and found myself fascinated by
the clinical aspects of our work. I began graduate school to become
an adult/women's health nurse practitioner and plan to return to the international
arena upon graduation.
