• Connect an Ethernet cable to your computer. Plug the other end into the jack in the communications box in your room. (An Ethernet jack looks like an extra-wide phone jack)
  • Turn on your computer
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type inetwiz
  • Click OK—the Internet Connection Wizard Screen will start
    • Select—connect using my local area network (LAN), then click Next
    • Check—automatic discovery of proxy server [recommended]. Uncheck everything else, click Next.
    • Select—No to setup an Internet mail account, click Next then click Finish.
  • Note to DSL/home users—some services you might use at home change your settings in such a way that your system does NOT automatically recognize your Colby on-campus configuration when you return.
    • If this happens, try the following:
      • Right-click on My Network Places on the desktop > Properties
      • Right-click on Local Area Connection > Properties
      • On the General tab, scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
      • Click Properties
      • Select—obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically
      • Click OK twice
    • If you still cannot connect to the network try the following:
      • Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
      • Type ipconfig /renew
