Meeting to order, approved minutes of last meeting for posting.
Word Survey
Discussed the need for a follow up survey. Brainstormed several questions. Bob to circulate and summarize results. Replies are attached to these minutes.
Word Reference books
Discussed a request by a staff member to purchase a second copy of Quick Start - Word. Agreed this was a fine idea, Larry will order.
Discussed the purchase of a more comprehensive book on Word. Larry reported that he checked on these at Barnes and Noble and websites and found that there were no Word 98 (Mac) versions, all are Word 97 (Windows). After discussion, group elected to pursue the Windows version as there appear to be few options, we have a number of Windows/Word users, and the differences between 97/98 are slight.
Office Workshop
The ITS workshop on Microsoft at Colby on April 7th was brought to the groups attention and it was agreed to make our staff aware ASAP. Larry to get poster for the staff bulletin board.
Triple I
Frances joined the meeting to talk about her idea to present an overview of our INNOPAC. She feels that most staff have a narrow view of Triple I; they only know the part(s) that they use every day. She wants to cover: using the Triple I manual, who internally to contact with problems, contacting the Help Desk, and suggestions for enhancements. It was mentioned that Triple I was in the top three training needs identified by staff.
The group made a few suggestions and discussed how best to support this effort and it was scheduled as a Brown Bag event on April 14th and 16th. Janey to handle the promoting it.
Excel
As planned, the group began to schedule a Brown Bag series on Excel for the month of May. Feedback from the Word survey will be incorporated but it was decided to use essentially the same format. April 22 was picked to preview the first videos and the group agreed to meet on April 29th to plan out the series.
Mission
Larry has not had a chance to produce a mission statement. Bob thought that both the Library's and Colby's mission statement should be reviewed. Agreed that mission should be broader than software training, staff development in general need to be addressed. Perhaps a discussion with Suanne and Frances is necessary. Decided to continue this discussion.
Support Pages
The idea of web pages with information that supports staff in using computers was brought up briefly. Pat, Bob and Larry will pursue, perhaps pull in other staff.
