It is very important for ALL Windows users to perform the following actions in order to protect Colby computers from destructive viruses.

Open Sophos Anti-Virus by clicking Start, Programs, Sophos Anti Virus, Sophos Anti Virus

Select the Immediate tab (if it is not already selected)

Select the 'Options' menu and choose 'Configuration'.

Select the 'Mode' tab.

In the Mode settings:

Select 'Full' for 'Sweeping level'.

Select 'Normal' in it is not already selected for 'Priority'.

Select 'Scan inside archive files'.

Select 'Include Macintosh viruses'.

Select the 'Action' tab.

 

In the Action settings:

Select 'Disinfect boot sectors'

Select 'Disinfect documents'

Select 'Infected files'.

Select 'Shred' under 'Infected files'

If enabled, de-select 'Request Confirmation'. If a warning box appears, Click 'OK' to close it.

Click 'OK' at the bottom to close the 'Immediate Mode Configurations'panel

 

To add new viruses the list of Executibles.

Return to the 'Options' menu and choose 'Executables'.

Click 'Add', then type 'EML' in the box that appears. Click 'OK' to enter it.

Follow the same procedure to add 'NWS' to the list.

Click 'OK' to close the 'Executable File Extensions' panel.

 

Select the 'Scheduled' tab.

 

Repeat the steps above for the 'Mode' and 'Action' tabs in the 'Scheduled Job Configurations'.

When all of these configurations are set, click 'OK' at the bottom of the panel.

Select the 'Immediate' tab again.

Click 'GO'.

If you are prompted with a message saying that Sophos has detected a virus, click 'OK' to shred the file. When Sophos is finished a summary screen will display.
