THOMAS MORE STORKE: Graduate of Stanford University, a great institution we have long admired and now the more for your having attended it, you are the recognized dean and perhaps, indeed, the patriarch of California editors and publishers. Crusader for civil liberties and human rights since the very first day of this century, you have served your state and nation in many capacities, including United States Senator, and you have been friend and advisor to major political figures in both principal parties. More recently, your fighting editorials exposing the un-American activities of an extremist political movement have climaxed a lifetime of courageous public service. Author of two books, recipient of the Lauterbach Award and the Pulitzer Prize, Colby College is proud to salute you as eleventh Lovejoy Fellow, and to welcome you into the company of our honorary alumni at the same time that we similarly give witness to our admiration for one who is your long-time friend and distinguished fellow Californian.By the authority of the Board of Trustees of Colby College I confer upon you, THOMAS MORE STORKE, the Degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa. The hood with which you have been invested and this diploma which I place in your hand are the visible symbols of your membership in this society of scholars, to all the rights and privileges of which I declare you entitled.
