English professor want to learn Japanese!
Visiting Professor Patrick Donnelly came in today asking about any resources we might have that he could use to learn some conversation Japanese before he goes there this summer.

Any ideas, etc.? We can probably give him old news recordings from Prindle-sensei's class...right?

    Well, there might be a couple Japanese books on the bookshelf that he could take a look at. Maybe he'd like to check out the Japanese department's corner of colby.edu/lrc

    He should also talk to the Japanese TA. She's really nice, I'm sure she'd like to help.

    I suppose we could give him old news recordings, but I know I don't really enjoy watching old news.

    However, I would suggest to him that he audit a class. Professor Armony is auditing Chinese with Kim Besio, so I see no reason why he shouldn't be able to do that. And isn't there a Japanese conversation class going on?

    Japanese table?

Zac's VCR Problem
Hi kids, don't forget - the VCR has a remote control. The VCR doesn't like to flip manually to channel 76, so just use the remote for channel input. Obviously, you can do it this way for any channel that doesn't show up, not just 76.

Hey guys,

When professors come in needing something recorded, please ask them to fill out the request form, which is on the monitor's desk. Make sure to read Kate's lovely, informative notice on the bulletin board.

We now have an INBOX and an OUTBOX on the shelf behind the monitor's desk.

And speaking of recordings, ZAC, you get to record Prindle-sensei's news program tomorrow. Whoo-hoo!

  1. VCR problem
    I was just popping in the tape for Prindle-sensei\'s news recording, and...channel 76 is not appearing on either the TV or the VCR. I put the VCR on channel 75 and hoped for the best, but is this normal/what the hell should I do to fix this next time?

Russian news
I've set the vcr in the backroom to come on to tape the russian news at 9pm tonight (Monday 17th) - Michael - so if you could at 9 check to see that it is working. If it doesn't work, don't freak out, we'll work it out tomorrow, but I am just testing it.

To the wider LRC community - Do you guys think that we should go through all those old vhs tapes and figure out which language's new is on them and then ask those teachers if they still want/need the tapes. If they don't, we can rerecord them.

2 comps won't turn on
Comp 10 and comp 7 are off and won't turn on. It is frustrating. Any ideas?

    If they're still dead tomorrow, call ITS and tell them a couple of our computers aren't working. Their extension is x4222. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you.

VLL
There are some computer that were not playing the Chinese VLL listenings. I checked the computers and noticed these to stations 6, 9, and 11. Also the ethernet cable on station 7 was broken so i took it out, kristen do you know if there are extra one lying in the back room?

    If it's the same computer, the internet doesn't work because the hub doesn't work. I'll check it out when I'm in there, but I think Kate is already working on that.

    As for the audio trouble, have you checked whether it's a problem with the Audio Midi Player in Utilities? You can find the wiki on that here

Japanese News
Welcome back everyone!

Professor Prindle is trying to get news recordings for class. She came by arlier and was refered to the media center but they were not able to help her. I have emailed ITS to inqure about any japanese channels ans the SCOLA channel. Prof. Prindle left a vedio tape named Japanese News and it's on the monitor shelf. If anyone knows which channel shows japanese scila news can you please help her or tell us how to.

LRC hours for the next few days... READ THIS...
Hi everyone,
The LRC will be open everyday until the end of reading period. So the schedule will be as follows:

Saturday (regular hours): 12:00 - 18:00
Sunday (regular hours): 14:00 - 23:00
Monday: 8:00 - 17:00
Tuesday: 8:00 - 17:00

Exams start officially on Wednesday, so the LRC will not re-open again after closing on Tuesday at 5pm. I will put up a sign on the door sometime.

Please let me know ASAP if you can't make it to any of your shifts during those days and times. Otherwise, please get there on time (especially if you have an opening shift).

Thanks everyone & Goodluck w/ your exams and papers.
