Problem with GM125 Kapital 10, Struktur
A 404(Not Found) error is returned when students try to listen to the "Kapital 10, Struktur" quicktime sound file.

This file is located at http://www.colby.edu/lrc/vll/german/wiegehts910.html .

Does anyone know how to fix this OR who to contact to fix this?

farewell from Lucy
Dear LRC members:

Here is Lucy saying a delayed goodbye to all of you. Although we only worked together for one semester, I really appreciate the opportunity of being at Colby and knowing all of you. I really wish I could have been with you now for this busy semester.

I already have missed your guys: Dasha, Fern, Jess, Andrew, Joel, Steph, Austin, Cindy, Clair, Nikolai, Mike... (And welcome back, Kristen, I almost think I have known you just from the stories I heard from our group and faculty)

I hope the print LRC manual I updated before I left is a little bit helpful to some of your LRC work this semester. I wish I could have done more to make your LRC work a little easier...

Here I would like to say a late but sincere farewell and send you my remote best-wishes to all of you: happy life, fruitful study and fun work after graduation. Keep yourselves healthy and happy and go for your dreaming success...

Backroom...
The LRC backroom is "off-limits" to everyone, except for students registered in the American Dreams class, LRC staff, and faculty. I am not sure how we'll do it once the American Dreams students will start coming in, but in the meantime, the door to the backroom should stay locked at all times.

Watch out!
There seems to be some kind of buggie-thing going on in the wiki. Some of the wikis describing html source stuff act strangely. It seems as if the browser reads the html code inside the wiki if you try to edit it. It works the first time you enter the source code, but if you return to the edit page it will read the source code and change your wiki.

Please, if I'm just doing something wrongly and anyone can tell me how to avoid this tell me.

Door wide open..
Hey everyone
Is there a reason why when I came in on Sunday afternoon the door was propped wide open with no-one in the lab, and there were not-so-nice words written on the white board? Is there something going on in the lab during janplan? Otherwise, I feel locking up is a pretty good idea...

If you do not fill in your orders, you will not get any food...
The folder is on the monitor's desk, so it should be pretty easy for you to locate it...

    Dalia told me that reading period starting from this Sat and ending at next Wednesday. So it seems that the get-together can be only held either on next Monday or Tuesday? Am I understanding it correctly?

    So two questions:
    1. Food: From some suggestions, we can order food from subway.
    I need to know your orders before the get-together.

    2. time: will next Tuesday around 2pm a good time?
    (food is going to be provided in the LRC backroom and you may pick you your orders between 2pm to 3pm, but you must let me know your order beforehand to get sandwiches.)

    Any suggestions?

    Both Monday & Tuesday work fine for me...
    I like Subway...
    I would like a 6" Sweet onion Teriyaki chicken sandwich on toasted white bread, w/ Swiss cheese, a little bit of olives & pickles, some sweet onion sauce, but nothing else (i.e. no other vegetables since i am allergic to them)...

LRC Get-together...
Everyone,
If you want to get any food next week when we meet, you should stop by the LRC and write down your orders in that same form (it's inside the folder on the monitor's desk)... It only takes a minute or two to do so.
Also... Just like Lucy mentioned in her post, you need to have your orders filled in by 11:00AM this Monday at the very latest!

American Dream finished projects
Alice from the Communication Department is looking for past American Dream projects, which can be more easily compressed for web delivery than the DVDs she has. Any clue on this?

I found 5 external hard drives in the backroom and put it with their power plugs in the closet. One power supply is missing at least half (connection to the power outlet), please let me know if you happen to see one.

If you know where the other drives are, please also let me know.

Professor Nelson's video footage
Does anyone know where Professor Nelson's previous video footages are saved? We will try to find this, otherwise we need to recapture the whole and edit the selected clips next Semester?

Professor Nelson might have more footage after the JanPlan.

  1. Barbara Nelson's video footage...
    As far as I know, we never imported her footage because I guess somehow we all decided that there was way too much to import -- I think it was more than 15 hours of footage.
    The plan was that Prof. Nelson would have to work with a student and pick which particular interviews she would definitely need for the Voices of Ecuador project, and that these would be the only ones we would import.
    The original tapes were sitting in the closet pretty much the whole time until she picked them up earlier this semester.

Please keep updating your work log while working for studio
Please keep an updated record of your worked hours in your "work log" on our shared drive, which will serve as a reference for me to keep track of your project progress and to approve your web-entered "time Log". Again, this is required.

Required by Colby College, for any past working hours, you need to fill in a paper form from the Pay Roll office with my approval to make it up. You cannot make it up in the current pay period. Thanks!!

Video Editing Support: video station hardware problems
We need to get those machines in shape for Spring Video Editing Projects.
Please add any hardware/software problems you noticed when working on the 5 video editing stations. We will try to get those problems solved before the Spring semester.
Any suggestions concerning future video projects support (American Dream), please also contribute here.

    Media 1: The disc drive does not always open and close.
    Media 2: One of the headphones should be replaced.
    Media 2: Front firewire would not connect to peripheral. Should be checked.
    Media 3: Cannot resolve a propper IP address from working port.
    Media 5: headphones do not work.
    Media 5: All backed up.
    Media 4: All backed up.
    Media 1: All backed up.

    All stations: Office applications do not run.

    I am working on backup right now and then will be able to talk about imaging sometime soon. I just want to ensure our computers don't end up work sluggishly like the brand new imacs installed in Keyes classrooms.

    I checked those problems this morning, a very quiet time.

    Media 1: the disc drive works when I am trying. Show me the problem next time it happens and we will try to get that resolved then.

    Headphones and firewire:
    We got new headphones and we could replace the broken ones next time you pointed to me.

    The same with the firewire connection: I saw two ports, one with the G5, the other with the DVD player(?). Wondering the purpose of that?

    Thanks for backing up those old projects. I am checking the software there and goig to work on the new image to fix the office problem soon.

  1. Common Spot training.
    Thomas and I set up a meeting with Mel to learn common spot but it coincides with our meeting time so we will not be able to come. I'll stop by sometime before the meeting to give you a brief update on the backup process and then Thomas and I will have great things to present in the meeting after break.

Past projects
Hi guys,

I'm in the middle of trying to map out all the past LRC Studio projects, and as it is right now, the Barbara Nelson project is the only unfinished project that involves the LRC.

If anyone knows of other past - or current - projects that have stalled somewhere in the creation process, please let me know about it.
