Take screenshots on a Mac:

Command-Shift-3

Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it as a file on the desktop

Command-Shift-4,
then select an area

Command-Control-Shift-3

Use Mac keyboard Shortcut to capture screen as a file:

1)

To take a shot of the whole screen, press: [apple], [shift], and [3] keys.

2)

To take a shot of a selection of the screen, press: [apple], [shift], and [4] keys.

Note: When taking a shot of part of the screen, the cursor changes and you have to select your target. You only have one chance to select your area. If you make a mistake, then you have to do everything all over again.

The shot gets saved on desktop as a .pdf or .png; you can then open the file in Photoshop (Elements) and save it in a .jpg file format.

Use Mac application - Grab.

1)

To open Grab, go to (Disk name) > Applications > Utilities > Grab.

2)

To select different screen selection options, go to Capture. You choose between taking screen shots of

  • a selection of the screen,
  • a window,
  • the entire screen,
  • and a timed screen shot (default is set to 10 seconds).

3)

The captured image will automatically open in the “Grab”application, and you can save the file as a .tiff. To change the file format, open the file in Photoshop (Elements) and save as a .jpg.

Take screenshots on a PC:

1)

With Photoshop open and the area you want to take the screenshot of open on the screen, press the Print Screen key. It is to the right of you main keyboard area, sometimes across from the F keys, and sometimes in the group of keys below them.

2)

Pressing this key will place an image of your entire screen on the clipboard.

3)

In Photoshop, go to File > New, or press Ctrl + N to start a new document. The document size will already have been entered for you. Press OK to create the new document.

4)

Edit > Paste or press Ctrl + V to paste the clipboard image into your new document.
