Converting Laserdisc (and VHS).to DVD

1)

Make sure TV is set to AUX

2)

Cue the Laserdisc:

A laserdisc looks like a record. If you don't have an idea of what that looks like, a laserdisc looks like a CD on steroids and is a lot thicker and heavier. It has two sides

  • Turn on power, and open the laserdisc. Try not to get your hands all over the laserdisk, and try not to drop it. This may take some practice.
  • If it doesn't start playing automatically, press play.
  • You can pause the laserdisc by pressing one of the still/step buttons. You can scan through frame by frame with either of these buttons, or start it playing again by pressing play.
  • Go from chapter to chapter by pressing one of the scan buttons.

Note: Laserdiscs have two sides. You will have to pause your DVD recording and turn over the Laserdisc. A.k.a be mindful of your media and keep track of the time.

3)

Turn on the DVD player. The DVD player’s Power is on the left-hand side of the machine.

  • Change the input:
    • You can record off the TV onto a DVD as well. Change the TV channel by using the Smart Jog button (circled in blue).
    • Turn the Smart Jog button to the left or right to set the channel to L2 Stereo. The TV will now show what is playing from the Laserdisc.
  • Enter a DVD-R disc into the DVD player.
  • Press Record to record. It will not start recording right away but will take a few seconds, so plan accordingly.
  • Pause the recording by pressing the Pause button. You will need to pause the DVD inbetween the two sides of the Laserdisk. Start recording again by pressing record (it will again take a few seconds).

3)

Finalizing the DVD

Finalizing a disc seals the recording against adding addition segments or from editing the existing material. Or so says the user's manual. In any case, it's necessary to finalize a disc before it can be played.

  • Load the disc to be finalized.
  • Press Setup on the remote to reveal the menu.
  • Highlight Disc Setup from the Setup menu.
  • Press Enter to access the Disc Setup menu.
  • Use the joystick to select Finalize from the submenu.
  • Highlight Start to prepare for disc finalization.
  • Press Enter to begin finalizing the disc
