Scanning Images
Scanning

1)

Open Photoshop Elements. This is the commonly used program for scanning images in the LRC.

2)

Choose File > Import.

Select the device you would like to use for scanning. The LRC scanners are Epson Perfection 3170 and Epson Perfection 3200.

3)

The scanning process can be done either manually or automatically.

  • The Professional Mode allows the user to select the desired options for the quality of the image, out of which one of the most important is the resolution (Illustrated in this tutorial);
  • The “Home Mode” and “Full Auto Mode” gives the user little control of the quality of the image, but provides a wizard for users to get projects done, even not satisfactorily;

Professional Mode (Full control)

Home Mode (Some Control)

Full Auto Mode (No Control)

4)

Choose the Proper resolution, when scanning photos or documents in Professional Mode:

  • Under Original, set setting as illustrated:
  • Document Table: Reflective;
  • Document type: Document Table;
  • Auto Exposure Type:

    When scanning documents: set to “Document”
  • Under Destination:
  • Image type: 24-bit Color;
  • Resolution:
    Set to “150 or 300” dpi for archive or printing;
    Set to “72 or 96” for web or PowerPoint;
