System Prefs: Sound, Mics, etc.

A common problem in the lab occurs when 1) the microphone doesn't work and 2) no sound comes out of the headphones.

When troubleshooting, always start with the easiest solution: Are the headphones plugged in, is the iMic plugged in, is the Volume down or muted? Check these things quickly before moving on to more elaborate measures.

For problems involving sound, either recording or listening, go to System Preferences > Sound to find out what the problem is. There you can see if the Mute box is checked, and if the gain, or mic input level, is set too low.

Make sure the input is set to iMic USB system,

and output is set to internal speakers/headphones.
