Anamorphic Import/Export
When working with a camera that supports 16:9 anamorphic, import using the DV anamorphic setting in Final Cut Pro. It is important to select the "Anamorphic" tab in the browser for all relevant media. This ensures the video is kept at the correct aspect ratio (16:9) and does not end up looking smooshed as 4:3.

When you are prepared to export your project, go ahead and use compressor and select the 4:3 export option and not the 16:9 for MPEG-2. This is because choosing 16:9 will actually smoosh your video to an even smaller ratio. I'm not sure this is the best way to output 16:9 footage to a DVD so please add a comment if you have a better way.
