John Beaulieu '89 majored in Chemistry at Colby, but was a
"hard core computer geek". He worked for ACI US
for three years after graduating from Colby, and then started his own company, Pacific Data Management, Inc.,
a database consulting and development firm based in the San Francisco bay area.
He now employs 13 people. As for hobbies, he says:
"I have my Private Pilot's License and will be glad to give a Golden
Gate bay tour to any visiting Colby alumni." His e-mail address is

Chris Legault '89 finished his PhD in fisheries biology and
population dynamics at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine
and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) in May 1997. He then had one year post-doc
in the Cooperative Unit for Fisheries Education and Research, a joint
appointment between RSMAS and the National Marine Fisheries Service
(NMFS). He is now employed full-time by NMFS doing stock assessments and
development of models for application in stock assessments for both
national and international fisheries. Chris says: "My math-biology double
major at Colby has really paid off in spades! In other news, my 2.5 year
old daughter Monique has a one year old brother, Julien. My wife, Diane, is
working for Reefkeeper International, a nonprofit organization trying to
save the worlds coral reefs. Our happy family resides in Key Biscayne,
Florida, quite the change in climate from Colby!" Chris' email address is

Eric Stram '89 finished his M.D. at Vermont, and is now interning.
Kelda Caldwell Simpson '82 works at the World Bank as a
Senior Financial Analyst in the Financial Policy and Projections Division.

Mike Hawrylycz '81 recently got his Ph.D. from M.I.T., and is
employed at Los Alamos, NM.
Barry Tesman '81 was recently tenured at Dickinson College (he got his
degree from Rutgers under Fred Roberts).
Dan Alexander '75 says "Even though I wasn't a math major at Colby,
I eventually saw the light, and
became living proof that a Colby English A.B. can prepare you for anything:
I'm now a mathematics professor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
I'm delighted to teach -- where else can you work at what you want, the way
you want and have a month off every year. I'm still involved in history,

Joanne Tankard Smith '74 has had a varied career, working as a
teacher, research analyst, full-time parent, and land title examiner. She
received a M.A. in Statistics/Biostatistics at Penn State U in 1981. In
November 2001, she received National Board Certification in Adolesence and
Young Adult Mathematics. She is currently teaching mathematics at Norfolk
County Agricultural High School in Walpole, MA. In 2003 she was one of
seven finalists for Massachusetts Teacher of the Year.

Sara Shaw Rhoades '64 is not on the net yet, but you can read

for the class of '64 in the Colby alumni magazine. Her son Andrew
Rhoades '90 (rhoades@ll.mit.edu) was also a math
major.
T. Peter Fox, '62 is a retired IBM systems programmer.
Allan van Gestel, '57 is an Assoc. Justic of the Massachusetts
Superior Court. "After Colby, I spent one year programming for an IBM 705
computer and then went to law school at Boston University. Thus, except
for the rigors of training at Colby, I left mathematics for the law. By so
doing I probably avoided embarassment for the reputation of the
department."
Betty Wade Drum, '47 is a retired elementary school teacher.
