As invoked in its name, Seeing Otherwise invites visual inquiry and discovery to challenge
representations of migration and mobility in art. Featuring works by Romare Bearden, Phong
Bui, Lalla Essaydi, Whitfield Lovell, Meleko Mokgosi, Richard Mosse, Fred Wilson, Leo
Rubinfien, and Alfred Stieglitz, Seeing Otherwise explores relationships between displacement,
reinvention, presence, absence, identity, and memory. This exhibition is curated by Catherine
Besteman, Chloé Powers ‘19, and Caroline Webb ‘19.

Modern Wonder: The John Marin Collection

John Marin looked at the towering skyscrapers and bustling streets of Manhattan, the rollicking waters and windy coast of Maine and saw great forces at work. Large or small, manmade or natural, Marin embraced these forces and made their expression the focus of his painting and printmaking. Pulled from one of the largest collections of the artist’s works in the world, Modern Wonder covers the length and breadth of Marin’s career.

In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, American farmers commonly installed decorative weathervanes on the rooftops of their houses and barns. This exhibition of outstanding weathervanes from a private New England collection affords us the opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of these charming objects.
