The Nordica Trio will perform on Sunday, September 24, at Colby College in Waterville. The concert begins at 3 p.m. in Lorimer Chapel and is part of the 2000-01 Music at Colby concert series.

Nordica Trio is composed of clarinetist Karen Beacham, pianist Yuri Funahashi and Graybert Beacham on viola and violin. The group will be joined by John Boden on horn during the concert, which features the works of American composers George Rochberg and Alan Hovhaness and a piece by Johannes Brahms for piano, violin and horn.

Karen Beacham is a member of the applied music faculty at Colby and at the Portland Conservatory of Music. She has served as principal clarinet with the Maine Chamber Ensemble and the Portland Ballet Orchestra. Graybert Beacham received the Dr. Jerome Gross Prize in Violin at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in performance. Yuri Funahashi earned a doctor of music arts degree from the Juilliard School. She performs with the Festival Chamber Music Society of New York City and with the Pane-Funahashi Piano Duo. Recordings of the Nordica Trio’s concerts have been broadcast by Maine Public Radio for the program Maine Stage.
