The award-winning percussion ensemble NEXUS will perform at Colby College in Waterville on Sunday, March 10, as part of the 2001-02 Music at Colby Concert Series. The five members of the ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Given Auditorium of the Bixler Art and Music Center. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
Known for their innovative and diverse percussion music, NEXUS has been performing with its five original members since 1971. Their concerts typically involve 100 to 200 percussion instruments, large and small, acquired from all over the world and their music is influenced by symphony, jazz, chamber and novelty music and music from cultures worldwide.
NEXUS was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society’s Hall of Fame in 1999. In 1997 NEXUS was the recipient of the Banff Centre for the Arts National Award, which cited NEXUS for its “constant and joyful commitment to the development of the next generation of musicians and audiences” and “as superb musicians, with a following around the world.”
