Stephen Heacock, of Fountainville, Pa., has been named to lead the Colby College Office of Communications beginning November 1, Vice President for College Relations Richard Ammons announced. Heacock was selected to become Colby’s associate vice president and director of communications following a national search. He will come to Colby from Haverford College in Pennsylvania, where he served as the executive director of marketing and communications for five years.
During his career Heacock has worked on the editorial side of consumer magazines and as the leader of marketing efforts in higher education. He also worked as an account executive and vice president for a boutique marketing communications agency in Princeton, N.J. Most recently, at Haverford, Heacock managed all aspects of communications, from publications and the Web to multimedia fund-raising appeals during a successful $200-million campaign. At Colby he will oversee media relations, the communications role in Web development and design, Colby magazine, and publications.
“Stephen Heacock’s experience in higher education and his management skills make him well suited to lead the Communications Office in its efforts to make known Colby’s strengths as a world-class liberal arts college,” said Ammons. “We are fortunate to have him leading this talented group, and we look forward to welcoming him to Colby and the Waterville community.”
Heacock is a 1983 graduate of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa., with a degree in communications. He will be joined in the Waterville area by his wife and two children.
